Singleton to “Walk in the Shoes” of a Nursing Home Worker
Assemblyman Will Tour Cinnaminson Facility to Gain Understanding of Workers' Needs to Boost Care for New Jersey's Most VulnerableAssemblyman Troy Singleton (D-Burlington) will join with members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1199 on Friday in Cinnaminson to "walk in the shoes" of the dedicated employees that staff New Jersey's nursing homes.
"There are two core goals for this visit: to see how we can improve the lives of residents in our nursing home facilities and in order to do that we need to have a better understanding of how we can assist the employees who do the back-breaking work of keeping these facilities running day in and day out," said Singleton. "In this economic climate, nursing homes have continually been threatened by budget cuts. What we need to remember is that some of the most vulnerable residents in our state reside in these homes. This should be the last place we look to balance our budget woes."
Singleton will arrive at the Cinnaminson Center Nursing Home, 1700 Wynwood Drive, Cinnaminson, at 10 a.m. where he will be greeted by Administrator Jennifer Jones and Admission Director Donna Castrogiovanni who will lead a tour of the center. Singleton will also be joined by SEIU Executive Vice President Milly Silva.
From there he will be paired with a C.N.A. and assigned to a long-term care resident. Singleton will also take part in a variety of daily care activities, including rehab and restorative programs, medication distribution, dietary discussions and leisure activities, as well as assisting with maintenance services such as floor and carpet cleaning.
The visit will wrap up in the main dining room where Singleton will host a question and answer session with residents to gain better insight into their needs and concerns that he can take back to Trenton with him.
